Between the ripples: reflections of an oceanic history
Curated by Carolina Ciuti
August 2024
The second edition of 8 Albe delved into submerged worlds, exploring the ocean in a profound and multifaceted way—not only as a natural element, but also as a cultural symbol and a space of continuous exchange between different worlds.
The ocean, which covers most of our planet, embodies an immense and mysterious force, capable of both regeneration and destruction. It has long inspired narratives ranging from adventurous journeys to philosophical introspection. Though vital to our ecosystem, it remains one of the least explored environments, with only a small portion of the seabed ever mapped or studied.
The video program brought together a diverse range of artistic voices and languages—documentary, essay, and fiction—inviting the audience to reflect on the significance and challenges of the ocean, both as a natural resource and as a metaphorical bridge between cultures and communities.
The second edition concluded with Naumaquia Coral 2023, a performance by Fito Conesa in collaboration with Claudia Schneider.
